Texas Instruments commissioned the EdWeek Research Center to better understand how digital exams are shaping math instruction and how calculators play a role in student learning and focus.

This report surveyed high school teachers and secondary administrators to examine calculator preferences, usage patterns, and policy awareness related to calculators.
Here’s a snapshot of what the research reveals:
  • 81% of educators believe handheld calculators are better than online calculators at helping students focus on math.
  • 91% of teachers use handheld calculators for instruction, and most prefer them over online alternatives for both instruction and exam prep.
  • 75% of educators believe students perform better on digital exams when they use handheld calculators instead of digital embedded versions.
